Engineering Science (Mechanical)

The Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) provides you with the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing you for further study or for a career in an engineering-related field or in areas where these skills and knowledge are required.

Mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, construction and operation of machinery. It applies the principles of physics, materials science and mathematics to designing, developing, researching, evaluating, manufacturing, installing, testing, operating, maintaining and managing mechanical systems.

Quick Facts

Duration: 2 years
Start Date: March, July
Tuition Fee: $39,500
Location: Adelaide Campus, Australia
CRICOS code: 094010J
Delivery mode: On campus

As a discipline, mechanical engineering is applied in a variety of areas including mining, minerals processing, manufacturing, the oil and gas industry, the automotive, aviation and shipbuilding industries, electrical power generation and distribution, road and rail transport, defence, agriculture, fishing and food processing.

What you will study

You will be provided with study in both the theoretical and practical aspects of engineering, and the course builds on your previous experience and knowledge.

The program includes eleven core topics including a design project and research project. Core topics provide you with the opportunity to gain knowledge in analysis of engineering systems, engineering physics and materials, engineering mathematics, mechanics and structures, engineering mechanics, engineering materials, and thermodynamics and energy systems.

Options topics cover areas such as fluid mechanics, dynamics, applied thermo-fluid dynamics, mechanics of machines, control systems, and solid mechanics.

“I had a nice relationship with all my lecturers. They were committed to helping you out with everything, especially if you showed that you cared about your work. Uni organised for me to go to Flinders Partners to work on software for innovation management. I was so pleased when they offered me a full-time position.”
